BOO TRACE

An original midnight mystery.

Boo Trace is an original temporal deduction game made for Halloween 2026. Its rules, puzzle generator, interface and artwork were created for this edition. Eight deterministic mysteries each have one uniquely identifiable first guest and starting bell.

Source and inspiration

Seasonal GitHub research reference: teresaromero/trick-or-treat-game, observed 2 stars, MIT, pushed October 25, 2026. Reference revision: 5664c80177b161639475f5dff67cecb780e140b7. That project is a falling-object click game; no code or assets from it are used here. This edition uses the original-game fallback after popular recent candidates failed overlap or platform checks.

Artwork

The six guest portraits were generated together with OpenAI's built-in GPT image tool. The atlas is optimized as a locally bundled WebP, used directly for guest selection, timeline state and witness notes.

Local and private

All gameplay runs in your browser. There are no model calls, accounts, downloads, analytics, remote assets or server dependencies. Only solved-case star scores are stored locally; if storage is unavailable, gameplay still works.
